What is Google Takeout?
Google Takeout is Google's official tool for downloading a copy of your own data, including your saved places from Google Maps. Open takeout.google.com, click Deselect all, tick Maps (your places), and export — Google emails you a ZIP within a few minutes. Inside is a Saved Places.json file you can upload to ExportMyMap. The Chrome extension skips this step entirely.
Do I need Google Takeout if I use the Chrome extension?
No. The extension reads your lists directly inside Google Maps, so there's no file to download and no Takeout archive to wait for — you click the toolbar icon, pick a list, and export. Takeout is only there as an alternative if you'd rather upload a Saved Places.json file by hand instead of installing anything.
What formats can I export?
Nine. Three are ready to read: a Share Link anyone can open in a browser, a printable PDF travel guide, and an ink-light Print layout. Six are data files — CSV and Excel (XLSX) for spreadsheets, JSON for scripts, and GeoJSON, KML, and GPX for mapping and GPS apps like QGIS, Google Earth, and Garmin devices.
Is my data safe?
Yes. When you upload a Takeout JSON, it's parsed entirely in your browser and never leaves your device. With the extension, your places stay local for every format except two: a Share Link uploads the encoded list so the URL resolves for others, and PDF rendering runs in a stateless function that stores nothing. We never sell your data or show ads.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes — cancel anytime from the Stripe billing portal, and your access stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for. There's no cancellation fee and no email to send: open the billing link in the footer, sign in with the email you paid with, and switch the plan off. Lifetime is a one-time purchase, so there's nothing to cancel.
Does it work in Edge, Brave, or Arc?
Yes. ExportMyMap is a Chromium extension, so it runs in any Chromium-based desktop browser — Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera, and Vivaldi — and you install it from the Chrome Web Store the same way in each. It doesn't run in Safari or Firefox, which use different extension engines.
Does it work on mobile?
The Chrome extension is desktop-only, because mobile Chrome doesn't support extensions. You can still export on a phone with the upload route: grab your Saved Places.json from Google Takeout, open exportmymap.com in any mobile browser, and drop the file in. For everyday use, though, the desktop extension is far quicker.
What's in a CSV or Excel export?
One row per place, with a column for everything Google shows: name, full address (plus separate city, state, and country fields), latitude and longitude, rating and review count, phone, website, category, and opening hours, alongside the Google Maps link and a photo URL. It opens straight in Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers — ready to sort and filter.
What can I do on the free plan?
The free plan previews the first 10 places of any list in all nine formats, with a small watermark on exports — enough to see exactly what you'll get. To export a full list of any length without the watermark, upgrade to a paid plan; pricing is shown above and starts at a weekly option you can cancel anytime.
